The Scholarship Girl at Cambridge (Josephine Elder)

Title: The Scholarship Girl at Cambridge
Author: Josephine Elder
Publisher: Girls Gone By Publishers
Year: 2012
Condition: New

Aged 18, Monica Baxter, who was Head Prefect and Head of Games at Greystones, wins a scholarship to Cambridge. Although Elder calls the college Girnham it is obviously meant to be Girton. Monica is accompanied by her great friend, Francesca. Both girls are keen hockey players and become well known by the senior students because of this. However, an unwise friendship on Monica’s part casts a shadow over her first two years, and causes a rift between her and Francesca. Nonetheless, by her third year Monica has grown in maturity and has come to realise who her true friends are.

Includes a short story, The Burglary at Bowerfield, by Josephine Elder, and an article on the real 'Girnham College' by Sarah Woodall.
